Abstract
1331 cases of the appendectomies were performed at Sung-Ae General Hospital from October 1991 to october 1993. Laparoscopic appendectomies were 678 cases (51%), and conventional appendectomies wer 653 cases (49%). We reviewed the laparoscopic
appendectomies and compared with conventional appendectomies.
The average operative time of laparoscopic appendectomy was not different from the conventional appendectomy.
The postoperative duration of hospital day of laparoscopic appendecotomy was shorter than conventional appendectomy.
In the 678 cases of laparoscopic appendectomies, 3 cases were converted to open appendectomy because of severe adhesion due to periappendiceal abscess.
Overall complication rate was lower in laparoscopic appendectomy compared with conventional appendectomy and there was no serious complication in the laparoscopic cases, such as requiring reoperation.
When the appendicitis is suspected, especially in the reproductive women, the laparoscopic approach would be better diagnostic and therapeutic valuos than conventional method.
